A famous model, Mr Michael Adesida, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government, corporate organisations and international beauty brands to understudy the viability of Nigeria’s modeling industry.
Adesida told the AFRICAN MODELS AND VIXENS BLOG (AMVB) in Lagos that this would enable them to harness the potential in the country’s modeling industry and raise more revenues for the country.
The model noted that modeling had the capacity of raising revenue for both government and individuals, but that the industry needed to be expanded through sponsorship.
According to him, there are many young Nigerians who have modeling skills that could fetch huge revenue for government through effective utilization of such potential.
``In spite of having many young men and women with so many prospects in modeling, they lack the ability to break into the industry.
`` But with government, corporate bodies and stakeholders' support, they can break even.
``There is a wide range of benefits that modeling can bring into Nigeria but we have not been able to achieve any of that, `` he said.
He said Nigerian models would do better if there was credible sponsorship to enhance the expansion of the sector thereby creating better platforms and employment opportunities.
``Many countries like Gambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and Kenya seem to have grown their modeling sector to a level of attracting foreign endorsements.
``Nigeria has a lot to learn from western countries such as U.K, Italy, France and the U.S., whose modeling industries have grown to a major revenue earner for them, `` he said.
The model urged the government to aid people in the sector by building major modeling outfits across the six geopolitical zones.
``People across different cultures have modeling skills but these skills need to be enhanced only when there is a major outfit within their locality, ``he said.
